Penguins living in Doubtless Bay have new houses to sleep in tonight. 2 Teams from the school – one land based the other water based planted the Penguin boxes around the Mangonui Harbour. Our group put three boxes along the Mangonui Waterfront (where we came across a Penguin) and three boxes on the edge of Rangikapiti Pa. Those that know the string rope track will appreciate the efforts the students took to get the boxes to the Penguins. A rough, steep and slippery climb down to the rocks below. Garath our team leader made sure that we did things right covering the boxes with rocks to look as natural as possible. The other group went with Glenn Bradbury in his boat to deliver boxes to places only accessible by boat. The students loved it and no doubt the Penguins with appreciate the effort these guys took.
We are All proud that Mangonui School is taking a lead role in the protection and preservation of our beautiful Doubtess Bay Tokarau te Moana, and the special sea life within it.
